According to the North Carolina Substance Abuse Federation. Substance Abuse is pervasive in our society and our state - On the conservative side 8 out of every 100 of our citizens are afflicted with a substance abuse disorders and 4 times that many are directly affected or 32 out of every 100. In conclusion 40 people out every 100 of North Carolinas population are either directly or indirectly affected by Substance Abuse, clearly solutions and assistance are needed.

Substance Abuse Addictions are biophysical /emotional / and social in nature. Addiction can destroy not only our mental and physical health, but also our lives -- fracturing relationships with family and friends, resulting in the loss of jobs and homes.

Nonetheless, Substance Abuse is both preventable and treatable. Persons who obtain appropriate treatment can recover and become productive members of society. Regaining their own self-integrity, and the once lost respect of others. Repairing the damage to the lives around them, as well as their own can be difficult to say the least, but is definitely easier than continuing down the path of destruction and most certainly death. Once forgotten hopes and dreams will again become obtainable: and with time, reality.

The Atlanta Recovery Center / Narconon of the South program seeks to help its neighbors in North Carolina through offering an innovative treatment approach that conquers the addiction and restores families. We seek to achieve these goals through advocacy and advisement for substance prevention and treatment services and review of existing programs and policies affecting the people of North Carolina in an attempt to help.

"CONCORD - Police on Thursday afternoon began arresting suspected drug dealers they've been watching for the last six months. The charges included drug trafficking and possession with intent to sell and deliver. As of Thursday evening, Concord police had arrested 11 people they say are mid- and street-level drug dealers. Twenty others are still sought, said Capt. Walt Stofford. The arrests were the result of a six-month investigation that began with community complaints about drug dealing in neighborhoods. Police focused on crack cocaine but also made arrests on charges involving marijuana, oxycodone and oxycontin. "We know drugs are a big problem across America," Stofford said, "(but) we made a significant impact on the drug problem in Concord today." Thursday Feb 27th, 2003
