Medical
and Scientific support for the Rehabilitation Program
In
the medical, scientific, and chemical dependency treatment communities there
has been a long-standing controversy as to a correct treatment philosophy. Most
are empty arguments without any concrete proof and based on bias, this is
obviously apparent in the relapse rates of those who try treatment and fail
miserably only to try the same treatment again and again, only to fail over and
over. In time the individual will usually resign himself to a hopeless dimly
lit future. Below is information that is clinically proven by medical experts
in the field of Substance abuse treatment that clearly points to the correct
approach, which is utilized by Atlanta Recovery Narconon.
Forest Tennant, M.D., Dr. P.H.:
A national
leader in the field of drug rehabilitation, Dr. Tennant is the author of more
than 200 scientific papers, books and videos on the subjects of neurochemistry
and drug dependence. He is the Executive Director of the Research Center for
Chronic Pain and Dependency Disorders and the Executive Director of the
Community Health Projects Medical Group. He has served as a Public Health
Fellow for the U.S. Public Health Service, as an Associate Professor at the
UCLA School of Public Health and is a member of the Drug Abuse Advisory
Committee of the Food and Drug Administration. He is a Narcotics Training
Consultant for the California Highway Patrol and the California Department of
Justice. Dr. Tennant was the Keynote Speaker at the Conference on Human
Detoxification, Los Angeles, 1995.
Dr. Shelley Beckman, Ph.
D.
Dr. Shelley Beckman earned her BS from the California
Institute of Technology and her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University
of Colorado, Boulder. Over the last decade, the focus of her work has been on
the reduction of adverse health effects from chemical contaminants. Her
research has focused on assessment of the effectiveness of detoxification
treatment in removing chemical contaminants from the body and in alleviating
health effects caused by chemicals. She has also worked towards the reduction
of toxic chemical contamination in the environment, through both public policy
and educational initiatives. Her interest has included work on the reduction of
drug abuse through the use of detoxification as one component of drug
treatment. Presented at the 123rd Annual Meeting of the American Public
Health Association
Dr. Megan Shields,
MD
Dr. Shields graduated from the Medical College of
Virginia and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice. She is a
frequent presenter at conferences on Substance Abuse and Public Health as well
as being the author of many scientific papers on the role of detoxification.
